My name is Celeste and my grandfather Hermann Foland was the owner of the Jalsico when it was sold to Joe Palooka and other investors. My grandfather was a whaler at the time and had the Jalisco moored for about 3 years in Richmond, Ca. Not only were they wanting to build a fish plant, but Mexican Nationals wanted to create a Sovereign Nation for an offshore casino. It was the son of a former Mexican President, Mr. Guzman. Mr. Guzman was a partner with Joe Palooka. My mom and I are currently working on a book about the US and Californian whale industry and the Jalisco is part of our history. I have other information regarding the Jalisco at the time of the sale to the investors.

I would love to talk to you about your interview with Joe Kirkwood and learn about any other information that you have. Please email me at celestegillwork@gmail.com.
